Private Wright was a British Army soldier who served under Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart in the United Kingdom branch of the United Nations Intelligence Taskforce during the early 1970s. (DW: "Doctor Who and the Silurians")

Wright

Background[]

Wright was portrayed by Derek Pollitt, who previously played a soldier serving under Lethbridge-Stewart in "The Web of Fear". When the UNIT format span off from that serial, Pollitt had hoped that his character would be kept on as a semi-regular alongside Lethbridge-Stewart. In the tradition of other UNIT characters from this serial such as Upton (named for director's assistant Sue Upton) and Walton (named for lighting supervisor Ralph Walton), it is possible that this character was named for makeup artist Teresa Wright. Although referred to as a private in dialogue and in the credits, Wright wore the rank insignia of a lance corporal.
